Livermore Ride

Postby Derek on Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:59 am

I finally got around to riding to Livermore last weekend. I went with a group starting in placerville. The four of us Rode out to Plymouth then Ione then waterloo then Stockton then over the pass into Livermore. It ended up only being 115 miles and the group was slow as hell. On the flats we averaged about 17-18. It was so easy infact that i got there and went to sleep and rode home the next day (something I didn't plan to do), which was faster and probably more fun than the ride down. Total time both ways was about 13 hours. Its funny though how that was at one point a big goal i wanted to overcome and I just forgot about it, now that it happened it was just like another Saturday ride. Anyway see you guys tonight

Way to go "D"!

I remember talking with you about it last year; so you finally did it!

It's been a good couple of years riding with the A Group hasn't it; now you go off and do a goal event and it's anti-climatic - so much so that you had to do it again the next day just to feel like you accomplished something.

I love what you said: "...It ended up only being 115 miles and the group was slow as hell...". The regular Saturday ride is harder isn't it; makes your events seem easy. You're a monster Derek! I'll be you killed those guys on the climb over Patterson Pass Road.

yep. When the pass became visible I said "damn thats going to be a nice change to be in the hills" and they looked at me like i was freak! But yea I totally killed them on the climb it wasn't even comparable. I stopped for a minute before the last long climb to get myself together and still beat them to the top by about 3 minutes. As for the Saturday rides, at least they make me sore for a day or two. I felt like I feel after a Saturday with cycle Folsom after I got myself back to placerville

Great stuff Derek - what route did you take? I was thinking of doing a similar ride some time in the future so it would be nice to have a route. You give me directions and I can produce a map and routeslip for Steve to post. Deal?

"they looked at me like i was freak!"

If the shoe fits.

Congrats, Derek. I has to be nice to have a base solid enough to make one time goals seem trivial.

When I grow up...

Derek - what is Hwy 49 like from El Dorado to Nashville? Seems a bit trafficky and narrow. I have thought about taking Union Mine road for that secion but if 49 is ok, then I wouldn't bother with the detour.

Union Mine Road

Take Union Mine Road, it's a gorgeous, well paved, zero-traffic alternative that you'll enjoy much more than Hwy 49.
