Shoes.....

Postby DaveyD on Wed Aug 29, 2007 10:31 am

I am in the market for new shoes. I currently have Pearl Izumi shoes that I bought on Clearance at REI for like $29.99, which was a great deal. They are fine for Saturday rides but I'm increasingly discovering that on long rides (especially when it's hot out) that they become VERY uncomfortable for me.

Who has shoe recommendations? $$ are not really an object - I want to be comfortable in them.

Hi David,

Not sure how much help I'll be since I'm a gal with small feet, but for what it's worth I was riding in a pair of $29.99 REI clearance PI's as well and found that the smallest size slipped in the heel, which was not very efficient or comfie.

Enter my new (2004 clearance model) Sidi Genius's. While the size number is larger, they fit like a glove. If the rest of my body would hold up, I think I could ride in these shoes all day long. :D

My advice, is try on a lot of pairs. Just like running shoes, you'll find cycling shoes all fit differently and you need to find the right pair. I believe Specialized has a pair of shoes now that allow you to insert shims to get the right fit. Finally, don't buy shoes mail order. Unless you have tried on the same pair in a store....but a size in one manufacturer/model is not the same size in another model...
