Liquid Testing

Postby 2xironman on Sat May 17, 2008 7:38 pm

I am trying to stick with liquids for all fuel.
For simplicity and to see if it works.
I load up on the batter(perpetum) 5 to 6 scoops with a shot of 20mg whey protein, scoop of electrolite drink for flavor and added sodium all with a little bit of water. This totals about 900 calories (8oz). This is more for a 3 hour plus ride.
Take a pasty swigg then some water or sport drink. I also put electolite drinks in both of my bottles. This adds calories and needed minerals. On cooler days I put water in one of my bottles as not to overload the minerals.
On the side I have hammer gel shots, with caffine.
I do bring a solid food such as cliff bar, just in case.
I will bring extra drink powder for the turnaround in one bottle then water for the way home.

Interesting. After three hours aren't you starving?

After all these years, and all the different fads, I find myself enjoying a regular Cliff Bar, Cytomax and plain water the best for me. I'm not a gel fan at all. They make me sick. If I want something simple I'll use Cliff Blocks. Usually eating one every hour and then increasing to every 30 minutes if I'm riding over four hours for the last two hours.

Let me know how the liquid diet goes.

hungry during a ride

Postby Cheese Head on Mon May 19, 2008 6:49 pm

Not usually.
I don't get hungry at all, I have to force myself to eat in general while riding,
some times I have to remeber to drink a little more during cool weather. If I did get hungry I imagine it would be to late.
Liquid for me I believe works a little faster. It is much easier to carry as well as open and eat. The little flasks are great for batters and gels, fortunately my body loves them. I use the 8 oz for the batters and the 4 oz for the gels.

I tried doing a poll and it didn't work, how many calories do you guys eat on a long ride?
