Digi-blabber related to the Tour

What if...

I am watching (Marveling) CSC's teamwork in the tour. Granted, they have talented riders and have built a team to win the tour.... but.

I just wonder what the tour would be like if rather than focusing all effort on getting one guy across the line, the rules were modified to be more like a team time trial and the first 5 (3, whatever) guys had to cross the line for the team's time to register. The last finisher on the team would be the team's time.

I think it could be a very different and perhaps interesting event. Anyone aware if something like this has been tried in the past?

I know we all love superstars (individual), and I also know that the TDF has a "team" classification. But the focus on getting the ONE guy across the finish line creates these strange situations where a guy puts in this massive effort for a short time and then finishes 20 minutes behind the stage winner. I have a hard time with all these guys who are over 1:30 behind....maybe it's just me.

I would love to see a Team Cycling Challenge where some large percentage of the team has to finish a stage together to get a time.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you should check out the 2 man mountainbike enduro stage races that have become the rage.
